KSEB Proposes Standardized Rates for Electricity Service Connections

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has submitted a proposal to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to establish new, standardized rates for providing electricity service connections. This action aims to recover "reasonable expenditure" incurred by the board, following a directive issued by the commission in December 2024 and aligning with the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020, which mandate per-kVA/kW rates for new connections.

Under the proposal, connections in the Low Tension (LT) category, including those necessitating transformer installations, would be charged at ₹1,800 per kilowatt (kW). For the High Tension (HT) category, KSEB has suggested two rates: ₹2,006 per kilo-volt ampere (kVA) for connections without a ring main unit (RMU) and ₹10,352 per kVA for connections that include an RMU. The rates are based on an analysis of consumer data from February 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025.
