Sir Keir Starmer arrived in Liverpool for the Labour party conference, scheduled from September 28 to October 1. Ahead of the conference, the Labour leader made statements concerning Reform UK.
Sir Keir specifically addressed Reform UK’s recently announced policy proposal to replace indefinite leave to remain (ILR) for legal migrants with a system requiring reapplication for visas every five years, should the party win the next general election. He described this proposal as “one of ‘the most shocking things'” Reform had said and characterized Reform UK’s overall approach as promoting “toxic divide and decline.”
The Labour leader indicated that the conference would provide an opportunity to present Labour’s alternative vision of “patriotic national renewal” to the country. This context arises as Reform UK reportedly leads in current opinion polls.
