Liberal Democrats Outline Strategy Against Reform UK, Says Leader

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has stated that his party considers it a “moral duty” to prevent Nigel Farage and the Reform UK party from gaining influence. During his party’s autumn conference, Sir Ed suggested that a number of voters, reportedly turning away from the Labour and Conservative parties, are finding Reform appealing. He differentiated Reform’s stated vision, which he characterized as making the UK “be like Trump’s America,” from his party’s approach.

Sir Ed acknowledged that while the Liberal Democrats possessed “momentum,” this was not fully reflected in current opinion polls. He affirmed his party’s commitment to “take the fight to Reform” by addressing voter concerns. Specifically, he highlighted issues such as illegal immigration, advocating for the government to declare a national emergency to address the asylum backlog and close asylum hotels. Additionally, Sir Ed mentioned the Liberal Democrats’ proposed policies aimed at reducing energy bills to tackle the rising cost of living.
