A pro-Palestinian demonstration in central London resulted in at least 355 arrests, according to the Metropolitan Police. The arrests were primarily for alleged support of Palestine Action, an organization proscribed by the UK government in July, making it illegal to affiliate with or support.
Organized by Defend Our Juries, the protest reportedly involved around 1,000 participants. The demonstration proceeded despite prior calls from ministers and police for postponement following a recent synagogue attack in Manchester.
The Metropolitan Police deployed 1,500 officers to Trafalgar Square, stating that the protest diverted resources from “protective security” operations. Police confirmed arrests were ongoing, noting that many individuals remaining in the area were onlookers not displaying placards in support of Palestine Action. The Manchester Palestine Movement stated the protest aimed to mark “two years of genocide in Gaza.”
