A theft of jewelry described as being of "incalculable" value occurred at the Louvre Museum in Paris on a Sunday morning, according to France’s interior minister, Laurent Nuñez. The incident unfolded around 9:30 a.m. at the Galerie d’Apollon, a first-floor wing known to house collections including the French crown jewels.
Minister Nuñez informed France Inter radio that the perpetrators used a truck's lift mechanism to access a window, which they then breached with an angle grinder. The thieves reportedly broke into two display cases, acquired their loot, and fled on motor scooters, completing the entire operation within approximately seven minutes.
While specific items stolen were not disclosed, Mr. Nuñez characterized the jewelry as possessing "patrimonial" and "historical" value, rendering it "priceless."
