Police in Vaniyambadi, Tirupattur, have arrested a 44-year-old man from Hosur in connection with an alleged fraudulent transaction at a local pawn shop. The individual, identified as S. Madhavan, is accused of pledging a fake gold chain, reportedly weighing five sovereigns, on September 9, and receiving ₹1.5 lakh in cash. The pawn broker, R. Sait, initially accepted the item, which he stated appeared genuine, but later discovered it to be a gold-coated steel chain upon a subsequent check.
Upon realizing the discrepancy, Sait alerted Vaniyambadi Town police. Authorities conducted an investigation, utilizing CCTV footage and mobile phone tower signals to track Madhavan to Hosur, where he was apprehended. A case has been registered, and the arrested individual is currently lodged at a sub-jail in Tirupattur. A probe into the incident remains ongoing.
