In Chad’s Aboutengué refugee camp, a 26-year-old Sudanese refugee, Taiba Baraka, underwent a prenatal examination at a makeshift tent ward. Midwife Nancy Symgambaye noted Ms. Baraka’s 36-week pregnancy was measuring large, leading to an assessment of potential complications including a large baby, excess amniotic fluid, or twins, all identified as high-risk scenarios. The Aboutengué camp currently accommodates over 50,000 individuals, primarily women and children who have sought refuge from the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan.
