Authorities in Mathura have arrested nineteen individuals following protests on Sunday, March 22, 2026. These demonstrations occurred after the death of Chandrashekhar Das, also known as 'Farsa Wale Baba,' who was identified as a cow vigilante. Protesters reportedly blocked the Delhi-Agra National Highway, leading to extensive traffic disruptions, and allegedly engaged in stone-pelting when police attempted to clear the road. This resulted in injuries to several police personnel and damage to a police outpost and multiple government vehicles. An FIR has been registered against Daksh Chaudhary and his associates under relevant provisions of the BNS. Police have also registered a case against the driver of the truck involved in Chandrashekhar Das's death. Following demands from the deceased's followers, his last rites were conducted without a post-mortem examination. Additionally, local officials have announced plans for a memorial at a gaushala in Ajanokh village and the establishment of a police outpost for security.
