Metropolitan Police Request Postponement of London Protest Following Manchester Attack

The Metropolitan Police formally requested organizers to postpone a scheduled mass protest in London, which was planned to oppose the ban on Palestine Action. This request, communicated in a letter signed by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, cited the need to redirect significant policing resources towards protecting Jewish and Muslim communities across the capital.

The decision followed an attack at a Manchester synagogue, which resulted in the deaths of two members of the Jewish community and serious injuries to four others. Police indicated that the proposed London event would necessitate a “significant policing plan” and the deployment of “hundreds of officers,” thereby drawing personnel away from local community engagements and investigations into serious crimes, referencing previous large-scale demonstrations in central London.
