Michigan Church Attack: Police Release Video of Suspect Engagement

Michigan authorities have released body camera footage detailing the confrontation with Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, the individual accused in a fatal attack last week at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc. The incident, which resulted in four deaths and eight injuries, involved a truck reportedly being rammed into the chapel, subsequent gunfire targeting worshipers, and the setting ablaze of the church building. Police fatally shot Sanford in the parking lot approximately eight minutes after the initial assault, an event depicted in the released footage during a Friday press conference.

United States military records indicate Sanford served in the Marine Corps as an Iraq War veteran between 2004 and 2008. During separate statements, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Burton City Council candidate Kris Johns commented on Sanford’s reported sentiments. Johns stated Sanford had referred to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as “the antichrist,” and Leavitt stated Sanford “hated Mormons.” Additionally, a Google Maps image reportedly showed a political sign at an address listed online as belonging to Sanford.
