Nato forces intercepted three Russian warplanes after they entered Estonian airspace in the Vaindloo Island area of the Gulf of Finland. The military alliance reported an immediate response to the incursion.

Following the incident, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated the government would request Nato Article 4 consultations, while Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna described the event as “unprecedentedly brazen.” A Nato spokesperson characterized the action as “yet another example of reckless Russian behaviour.” The Russian military has not publicly commented on the matter.

This event follows recent reports of Russian drones breaching the airspace of Nato members Poland and Romania. Poland’s military reported 19 drone incursions last week, stating it had shot down at least three, with Belarus attributing those incidents to accidental entry due to jammed navigation systems.
