OBC Leader Discusses Reservation Protection and Community Dynamics in Maharashtra

In an interview, Babanrao Taywade, President of the OBC National Federation, articulated his perspective on the imperative to protect the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota from dilution. He addressed his decision to not attend a meeting organized by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while also discussing the complexities surrounding OBC unity. Taywade acknowledged the concerns of other OBC leaders and the Maratha community’s objective to secure OBC reservation through Kunbi status. He recognized apprehension regarding a government resolution potentially facilitating Maratha entry into the quota and the subsequent impact of increased Kunbi certificate holders on the existing OBC reservation. Taywade reaffirmed his consistent position against any dilution of the OBC quota, stating that all demands related to OBC issues presented to the government have been conceded and implemented, and that OBC reservations must be safeguarded.
