Optus Announces Investigation and New Protocols Following Emergency Call Disruptions

Optus CEO Stephen Rue has announced an independent investigation into a recent outage that reportedly affected access to Australia’s triple-zero emergency services. The company confirmed that two additional callers in New South Wales were unable to connect to emergency services, and two customers had reported these issues directly to Optus call centres. In response, Optus plans to implement a “compulsory escalation process” for future reports of triple-zero connection failures. Western Australian police are also scheduled to provide a media update regarding the impact of the Optus outage on emergency service calls in the state.
