President Donald Trump announced Sunday that prominent business leaders, including media executive Lachlan Murdoch, Larry Ellison, and Michael Dell, are slated to participate as U.S. investors in a proposed arrangement for TikTok to continue operating in the United States. According to Trump, this deal would necessitate the transfer of TikTok’s American assets from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, to U.S. owners. During an interview, Trump commended these individuals, describing them as “prominent people” and “American patriots,” and additionally credited TikTok with fostering support among young voters for his 2024 presidential campaign. Trump also indicated that Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch’s father, might also be involved in the transaction. Lachlan Murdoch serves as the CEO of Fox Corp, while Michael Dell is the CEO of Dell Technologies. The negotiations concerning the app are situated within broader economic discussions with China, which Trump has stated are beneficial to U.S. interests.
