Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has announced that a Home Office pathologist’s provisional determination indicates one victim of the recent Manchester synagogue attack died from a gunshot wound. This finding suggests potential involvement of armed police officers in the fatality. Sir Stephen Watson, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, confirmed this development, noting that full post-mortem examinations are scheduled. Furthermore, police have stated that one of the three individuals currently hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during the attack also has a police gunshot wound, which is not considered life-threatening.

The incident occurred on Yom Kippur. In connection with the attack, three individuals—two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s—have been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation, and instigation of acts of terrorism. Keir Starmer, who visited the scene and GMP headquarters, commended the police’s efforts in response to the incident.
