Dharminder, also known as Laddi, established Kudrat Organic Farm in Bad Majra village, Mohali, in 2016. The venture focuses on the large-scale production of vermicompost, a process that involves earthworms and cow dung.

The farm’s operations yield approximately 600 kg of vermicompost per bed over a cycle lasting 70 to 90 days. Annually, Kudrat Organic Farm produces around 2,400 tonnes of compost and 122-123 tonnes of earthworms. Of the earthworm production, 120 tonnes are reused within the farm’s beds, with the remaining two to three tonnes sold.

Laddi highlights the economic comparison between chemical fertilizers, costing an estimated Rs 30,000 per acre annually, and vermicompost, which requires three to four tonnes per acre during the initial year of transitioning to organic farming. He also addresses the belief that organic farming leads to diminished yields, stating this is a misconception.

Future plans include the development of a model organic farm that will exclusively utilize vermicompost for crop cultivation. This farm is intended to be accessible to visitors, students, and researchers, and will also serve as a training facility for organic farming practices.
