On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief and cartoonist Raj Thackeray published a cartoon referencing a recent Pahalgam terror attack and an India-Pakistan cricket match. The artwork depicted Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his son, Jay Shah, with one figure marked ‘ICC,’ alluding to Jay Shah. The cartoon questioned “Who actually won? Who actually lost?” and included relevant hashtags.
Following its release, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a strong condemnation of Thackeray’s post. Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar (BJP) also criticized the cartoon, describing its content as “improper and condemnable.” The cartoon appeared after India’s victory in an Asia Cup match against Pakistan, a fixture that had previously drawn opposition from other political figures, including Raj Thackeray’s cousin and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, and his son Aaditya Thackeray, who cited concerns over terror acts and alleged monetary motivations.
