Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kanwarlal Meena has submitted a petition to Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade seeking the commutation of his prison sentence. The request, filed under Article 161 of the Constitution, cites several factors for consideration, including Meena’s alleged cooperation with the legal process and his surrender after the Supreme Court rejected his special leave petition.

The petition further highlights Meena’s reportedly peaceful conduct during incarceration and his involvement in various social activities, such as organizing eye camps, Tiranga Yatras, and blood donation drives. Meena, a two-time MLA and an influential figure in the Jhalawar region, was convicted under Indian Penal Code Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant), 506 (criminal intimidation), and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Even if his sentence is commuted or he receives a pardon, Meena will remain disqualified from Assembly membership and ineligible to contest future elections.
