The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) license for the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), an organization founded by educationist and activist Sonam Wangchuk, has been revoked by the government. The Competent Authority initiated this cancellation under section 14(1) of the Act, a day following the deaths of four individuals during protests in Ladakh.
This decision follows an ongoing inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged violations of the FCRA associated with an institution founded by Wangchuk. Wangchuk had previously confirmed that CBI officials visited both SECMOL and the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh (HIAL) to gather details regarding foreign funds received from 2022 to 2024.
