The state government has announced its decision to pursue legal steps aimed at extending relaxations, previously permitted by the Supreme Court regarding appointments in aided schools, to a broader range of managements. A Supreme Court judgment had allowed the regularisation of appointments in aided schools under Nair Service Society (NSS) management, with the exception of posts reserved for the differently abled.
General Education Minister V. Sivankutty indicated that despite initial legal opinion suggesting the judgment’s applicability was confined to NSS managements, the government now perceives a need for a common and lasting solution to the issue. The government plans to approach the Supreme Court for a definitive verdict, particularly as several similar cases, including those related to teacher and differently abled appointments, are currently under the court’s consideration.
Earlier, the government had reported that only 1,329 of approximately 5,000 aided school managements had reported vacancies for differently abled individuals, with around 1,500 differently abled persons having secured appointments. This development follows previous objections from various school managements, notably those associated with the Catholic Church, concerning the government’s position on aided school appointments.
