Supreme Court Grants Interim Medical Bail to Elgar Parishad Accused

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday granted interim bail for a period of six weeks to Mahesh Raut, an accused in the Elgar Parishad case. This temporary release was approved on medical grounds.

The decision by a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma followed submissions from senior advocate C U Singh, who informed the court that Mr. Raut suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. It was argued that Mr. Raut requires specialized medical treatment that is not available within the prison system.

The court noted that the Bombay High Court had previously granted regular bail to Mr. Raut, although that specific order was later stayed by the Supreme Court.
