Suspect Identified in Manchester Synagogue Attack; Authorities Provide Updates

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have identified Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, as the suspect in the recent Manchester synagogue attack. Authorities confirmed that a suspicious device worn by the attacker was assessed and determined not to be viable, with police investigations ongoing and scenes remaining active on White House Avenue, Crumpsall, and Langley Crescent, Prestwich, linked to related arrests. In response to the incident, the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council voiced concerns regarding rising antisemitism in the UK and advised the Jewish community to follow security instructions from the Community Security Trust and police. Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig commented that the attack would leave a ‘deep mark’ on the community, and Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, was reported to have visited a synagogue.
