Tropical Storm Fengshen has resulted in eight fatalities and the evacuation of approximately 27,000 people in the Philippines over the weekend. The storm is projected to continue its trajectory across the Philippines, bringing substantial rainfall and potential flooding, before moving into the South China Sea. Forecasts indicate Fengshen could strengthen to sustained winds of 70mph as it turns southwest towards Vietnam.
Concurrently, the north-east monsoon season is active across Southeast Asia, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in India. The India meteorological department has issued warnings for up to 100-150mm of rainfall along India’s east coast this week, heightening the risk of further flooding.
