Emergency services responded to a fire that occurred on the first floor of a building in Kangeyanallur village, near Katpadi in Vellore, on Wednesday morning. The structure accommodates a private playschool on its ground floor and a real estate office on the first floor, where the incident originated around 11 a.m.
Staff at the real estate office reportedly observed smoke emanating from an air conditioning unit. Following this discovery, Viruthampattu police and firefighters from Katpadi were immediately notified. In a coordinated effort, school authorities and emergency personnel ensured the safe evacuation of children from the playschool to a nearby location.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze within the real estate office approximately one hour after their arrival. Authorities, citing preliminary findings, have indicated that an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit is the suspected cause of the fire. A case has been officially registered, and an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
