Five individuals have been arrested by West Bengal police in connection with an attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri, which occurred earlier this week. Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat confirmed the detentions, which took place between October 8 and October 9, 2025. The incident garnered political attention, with Ananda Bose calling for arrests within 24 hours and Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju stating that the Lok Sabha Speaker had requested an urgent report from the State government. In response to BJP’s allegations, Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Joy Prakash Majumdar emphasized that law enforcement agencies are accountable to the court of law.
Separately, a Trinamool Congress delegation visited the Tripura Governor’s office on Thursday, October 9, 2025, to submit a written memorandum. The memorandum pertained to an alleged attack on the party’s Agartala office on Tuesday evening, reportedly by BJP workers. Although the delegation, which included spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, was unable to meet the Governor, they confirmed the submission of their demands. Ghosh also stated that the delegation had met with the Director General of Police in Tripura the preceding day.
