Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has provided commentary on the leadership dynamics within the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, indicating a possible reduction in the active involvement of star player and former captain MS Dhoni.

This observation comes ahead of CSK's first home game of the IPL 2026 season against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), a period during which Dhoni's availability is uncertain following a two-week absence due to a calf strain.

Ashwin suggested that Dhoni might be intentionally decreasing his direct input, aiming to empower current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and head coach Stephen Fleming to manage the team's operations. This strategic step, as per Ashwin, would facilitate a seamless transition for the franchise in anticipation of Dhoni's eventual retirement from the league.
