A boiler tube explosion at a power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district on April 14, 2026, has resulted in an updated fatality count. As of April 15, 2026, the death toll from the incident climbed to 20, an increase from the 14 workers initially reported deceased on the evening of the explosion. Additionally, 16 individuals sustained injuries and are currently hospitalized.
Among the deceased, six workers were from West Bengal and five from Chhattisgarh, with the remaining victims originating from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. This information was confirmed by Prafull Thakur, the Superintendent of Police for Sakti.
