Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to Manipur since ethnic clashes began in May 2023, protests and clashes occurred in Churachandpur. These incidents unfolded a day after his visit, as a group gathered outside the Churachandpur police station demanding the release of two individuals. These individuals had been arrested for the alleged vandalism of the Prime Minister’s banners and cutouts, which were prominently displayed ahead of his arrival.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi addressed a public rally in Churachandpur, where he pledged to make Manipur a “symbol of peace.” His tour also included Mizoram and Assam, where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various developmental projects worth thousands of crores. These projects are intended to benefit sectors such as railways, roadways, energy, and sports. A significant highlight was the inauguration of Mizoram’s first railway line, the Bairabi-Sairang, designed to enhance the state’s connectivity.
