The State government has indicated forthcoming civic polls in Bengaluru, prompting the ruling Congress party to initiate preparations. A committee has been established, comprising its Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of Legislative Council (MLCs), and previous election candidates in the city, to strategize for the elections.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who additionally holds portfolios as Bengaluru Development Minister and the State Congress chief, has consistently urged party workers to ready themselves for these polls. Concurrently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently approved an allocation exceeding ₹1,000 crore for road repair and various developmental initiatives within Bengaluru.
In response, opposition parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)), have launched campaigns criticizing the ruling Congress. Their criticisms include claims that Bengaluru has become disorganised under the current administration and that significant promised projects, some promoted by Mr. Shivakumar as being valued at over ₹1 lakh crore, have not commenced.
