Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha recently defended a proposal concerning the identification of voters in upcoming elections. The proposal, put forth by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), advocates for face identification of voters who wear a burqa.
Sinha articulated his defense by advocating for uniform application of rules for all voters, drawing a comparison to women who wear a ghoonghat. This stance follows earlier concerns raised by the BJP with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding ‘parda nasheen’ voters, a term referring to women who observe purdah.
The Election Commission is currently engaged in reviewing its preparedness for the Bihar Assembly elections, which are scheduled to take place before November 22.
