Instagram is testing new features aimed at long-form content creators, including 90-minute horizontal videos. This new format will allow creators, such as podcasters and comedians, to link shorter clips, known as Reels, to their full-length videos.
According to a vice-president of product at Instagram, users will be able to discover a clip of content they enjoy and then click to watch the entire video. This feature is currently being tested with select creators in the US, following trials in Brazil.
The company is also experimenting with a feature called “Series,” which provides a dedicated space on a creator’s profile for episodic Reels. This initiative appears to be driven by a growing interest in microdramas and serial content among creators.
Instagram is also exploring ways to enhance the viewing experience for this long-form content, including expanding its TV app availability and testing how these features appear on television screens. Additionally, the platform is experimenting with integrating live videos into the Reels tab.
