Karnataka saw the addition of three new wayside amenities (WSAs) featuring electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities along its National Highways during the financial year 2024-25. This development increased the total number of operational EV-equipped WSAs in the state to four, positioning it behind several other states across the country. As of FY 2025-26, no further EV-equipped WSAs became operational in Karnataka. Nationally, Rajasthan leads with 20 operational WSAs offering EV charging, followed by Haryana with 18. Across India, EV charging stations have been commissioned at a total of 84 operational WSAs.
In May, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced future plans to establish more WSAs along strategic sections of National Highway 48 in Karnataka. These planned locations include the Belagavi–Kolhapur, Tumakuru–Chitradurga, and Chitradurga–Hubballi corridors. Beyond EV charging, these wayside amenities provide a comprehensive range of services, such as restaurants, toilets, drinking water, parking areas, fuel stations, medical assistance, and short-term accommodation.
