The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced an amendment to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, establishing a new fee structure for vehicles entering toll plazas without a valid and functional FASTag. Effective November 15, 2025, non-FASTag users will face varying charges based on their payment method. Those opting to pay with cash will be required to pay double the applicable user fee, whereas vehicle owners utilizing the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) will be charged 1.25 times the regular toll amount. This measure is part of a broader strategy to reduce cash transactions and incentivize digital payments at user fee plazas on National Highways.
