A delegation from the Congress party, including general secretary K.C. Venugopal and candidate Meenakshi Natarajan, met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The purpose of the meeting was to address the rejection of Ms. Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, also part of the delegation, argued that the rejection stemmed from an erroneous classification of a private complaint as a criminal case, asserting that Ms. Natarajan had only received a notice regarding a private complaint. Mr. Singhvi requested the ECI utilize its inherent powers to correct what he termed a wrong decision and withdraw the order of rejection. Separately, K.C. Venugopal announced an urgent meeting of Congress general secretaries and in-charges, convened by party president Mallikarjun Kharge for Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Delhi, citing current political developments.
