Danish authorities have reported unidentified drone sightings at multiple airports across the country overnight, leading to temporary operational disruptions. Aalborg Airport, a facility utilized by both commercial and military aircraft, was closed for several hours, while Billund Airport, Denmark’s second largest, experienced a brief closure following unverified reports of drone activity. Further sightings were noted near two additional airports in southern Denmark and an air base that hosts fighter jets.
Government officials stated these incidents were an effort to sow fear within the nation. The origin and operators of the drones remain unknown. These events occur amidst a period of heightened alert across Europe, subsequent to recent airspace incursions by Russian aircraft in Poland, Estonia, and Romania.
