Kodagu District Outlines Accommodation Operator Directives

The Kodagu District’s Tourism Department has issued a set of comprehensive guidelines for owners of resorts, hotels, and homestays operating within the region. These directives, communicated by B. Basappa, Deputy Director of Tourism for Kodagu, aim to enhance guest safety and improve the tourist experience.

Key requirements include the mandatory verification and recording of foreign tourists’ visa, passport, and flight ticket details. Accommodation providers are also tasked with offering complete information regarding local tourist spots, route maps, and their operating hours.

Safety protocols stipulate the compulsory installation of a first-aid box and a fire extinguisher on premises. Furthermore, CCTV cameras must be installed, properly maintained, and their recordings preserved for a minimum of 45 days, with clear “You are under CCTV surveillance” signage displayed. Owners are instructed to implement preventive measures against incidents and immediately report any untoward occurrences or misconduct to the authorities. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in owners being held responsible, potentially facing legal action.
