Delhi police have increased security around Jantar Mantar and denied permission for a planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest was scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, and organized by the All India Students’ Association (AISA), Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha, and lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
Police sources indicated that an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 attendees were anticipated, leading to the heightened security measures. The protest aimed to express opposition to Mr. Kumar’s role as Chief Election Commissioner.
Separately, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke planned a protest in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park against Mr. Kumar, whose resignation CJP has demanded, citing actions against democratic principles. However, Mumbai police also denied permission for this gathering.
