Authorities in New Delhi have implemented extensive security measures and transit restrictions in anticipation of a large protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and allied groups. The protest, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, aims to demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and the cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Protestors allege that the SIR process is being used to manipulate voter lists by removing legitimate voters and misclassifying citizens. Concerns have been raised about the deletion of voters despite valid documentation and alterations to registration forms without consent.
In response, 57 metro stations have been closed, and train services have been reduced or cancelled. Several railway zones have reported rescheduling or cancelling Delhi-bound trains due to expected traffic congestion. Additionally, the Delhi government has ordered the closure of liquor shops and some educational institutions have moved classes online.
Approximately 23,000 security personnel are expected to be deployed across the city. Security agencies are coordinating to prevent law and order issues, with enhanced surveillance and monitoring systems in place. Gatherings in violation of restrictions are not permitted.
