Indian golfer Pranavi Urs, a gold medallist at the Asian Games, has spoken out against the perception that golf is exclusively a sport for the wealthy. Urs stated that her motivation for playing golf stems from a genuine love for the sport, with fame and financial rewards being secondary benefits.
Urs highlighted the strong performance of women in sports at the Asian Games, suggesting it demonstrates that women are actively participating and achieving success, not confined to domestic roles. She drew inspiration from professional golfer Rory McIlroy’s comeback at the Masters, using it to maintain focus during challenging moments in her own competitions.
Following her historic Asian Games victory, Urs received a celebratory welcome in Mysuru, including a procession through the city. She secured both an individual gold medal and a team silver medal at the event, alongside teammates Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.
