Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives have strongly rebuked the federal agents’ search of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home. They described the action as “deeply disturbing” and an example of the Trump administration’s alleged “corrupt weaponization” of government agencies.
In a joint statement, House Democratic leaders, including Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar, accused the president of targeting political adversaries. They stated that the search, occurring less than a month before the midterm elections, was part of a pattern of harassment against Omar.
Other Democratic representatives, such as Ro Khanna and Sydney Kamlager-Dove, echoed these sentiments, calling the search an “abuse of power” and “fascism in the extreme.” Pramila Jayapal suggested the raid was a tactic to distract from the president’s unpopularity and high living costs. The Council on American-Islamic Relations also condemned the search, labeling it “political persecution.”
