The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently questioned Bengali film actor Ankush Hazra at its New Delhi headquarters regarding an alleged betting app scam. This development occurred a day after the agency interrogated former Trinamool Congress MP and actor Mimi Chakraborty for nine hours in connection with the same case.

The central agency’s investigation into the alleged scam is reportedly expanding, with back-to-back questioning of several high-profile figures, including cricketers and other prominent individuals from the Bengali film industry. Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar claimed that the ED’s actions are exposing a “syndicate” that he alleges uses Tollywood (the Bengali film industry) to launder black money. He also commented that the interrogations, particularly involving Hazra and Chakraborty, could be perceived as “film promotion” for their upcoming movie.

Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari stated that the ED’s interrogations are based on existing information and primary investigation, emphasizing that the central agency does not call individuals without initial scrutiny.
