The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced plans for a special initiative to register individuals who were previously unable to enroll and young people eligible to vote for the first time. This drive is part of an ongoing effort to update voter lists across states and union territories.
This special enrolment process will take place in regions where a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has already concluded. According to a statement from Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, the Declaration Form, which is part of Form 6, will be utilized exclusively during the SIR phase.
For periods outside of the SIR, the standard forms as outlined in the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will be employed. District-level officials met on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to discuss the implementation of this special enrolment drive, as indicated in the release.
