The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced new limits on the number of Form 7 applications individuals can submit to request the deletion of voter names. This measure aims to curb the practice of bulk filing of such applications during special revision periods.

Under the new rules, an individual elector can submit a maximum of 10 Form 7 applications during the entire period for claims and objections. For the ongoing process of updating electoral rolls, the limit is set at five applications per month. These restrictions apply to both online and physical submissions.

Previously, there was no limit on the number of physical Form 7 applications that could be filed. The ECI stated that the ECI noted that bulk applications by individual voters on unsubstantiated grounds cause inconvenience to those objected to and increase the workload for election officials. The commission also clarified that booth-level agents of recognized political parties have specific daily limits for filing forms during the revision period.

The directive also emphasizes the importance of proper form completion and verification. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are instructed to ensure all details are filled and signed correctly. They are also tasked with verifying the genuineness of the applicant and can take action against those submitting false or fabricated complaints.
