India Secures Numerous Medals Across Sports at Asian Games

India has achieved significant success at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, currently holding the 6th position on the medals table with a total of 71 medals. The competition sees China leading with 295 medals, followed by Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Wrestler Sunil Kumar made history by becoming the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win two medals at the Games. In athletics, the quartet of Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi Choudhary, and Vithya Ramraj secured India’s first track-and-field gold. Other athletics medalists include Gulveer Singh and Pooja Singh. The women’s kabaddi team also secured a gold medal.

Shooters have also performed well, with Neeru Dhanda winning gold in the women’s individual trap event and setting a continental record. Several other athletes across disciplines like shooting, wrestling, athletics, and squash have contributed to India’s growing medal count.
