Indian Cricket Team's Asia Cup Engagements: Philanthropy and Protocol Decisions

Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav announced his decision to donate his match fees from the recent Asia Cup tournament. The designated beneficiaries for this donation are the Indian armed forces and individuals affected by the Pahalgam terror attacks.

Throughout the Asia Cup, Yadav notably declined to engage in a handshake with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha on three separate occasions. Furthermore, the Indian team collectively refused to accept the championship trophy from Asia Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also holds positions as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. In a post-match briefing, Yadav remarked, “The real trophies are my 14 colleagues and they will stay in my memory.” Reports indicated that Naqvi’s social media activity was cited as a contributing factor in the Indian team’s decision regarding the trophy. Following these events, Salman Ali Agha publicly criticized the Indian team’s conduct during the tournament.
