Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, recently announced that approximately 90 percent of the cargo backlog at Indian ports has been cleared. This accumulation was primarily a result of disruptions caused by the evolving situation in West Asia and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at a high-level review meeting, Minister Sonowal attributed the successful resolution to timely intervention and continuous monitoring by the government. He underscored the government's commitment to ensuring operational continuity and protecting the interests of exporters, importers, and logistics stakeholders amidst challenging regional circumstances.
