A stampede at the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata on Saturday resulted in the deaths of 19 people and left 25 others injured. The victims included women and children, with four minors and thirteen women among the deceased, according to the Kolkata Police.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the victims at Kolkata Medical College and Hospital. He announced that the state government would offer ₹25 lakh and a Group D government job to the families of each deceased person. Police have detained organizers, private security guards, and staff for questioning in connection with the incident.

Junior doctors and interns at Kolkata Medical College alleged mismanagement in handling patients from the stampede, a claim denied by the West Bengal Health Minister.
