Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Sunday, April 5, 2026, that the state government will launch a probe into an alleged Call Detail Record (CDR) leak concerning Ashok Kharat, an individual referred to as a self-styled godman and astrologer. Kharat was arrested in March 2026 following accusations of repeated rape over a three-year period by a married woman.

Chief Minister Fadnavis also stated that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would investigate Kharat's assets. These government actions were announced subsequent to revelations made on Friday, April 3, 2026, by activist Anjali Damania. Damania claimed to have received Kharat's CDR via WhatsApp from an unknown number, asserting that these records indicated multiple calls between Kharat and several prominent Maharashtra politicians, including Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, BJP leader Chandrakant Patil, NCP leader Sunil Tatkare, and BJP Minister Ashish Shelar.
