Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko recently offered his perspective on the political entry of actor Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Speaking to presspersons in Tiruchi, Mr. Vaiko asserted that Mr. Vijay’s foray into politics would not significantly impact the existing DMK-led “secular alliance.” He predicted that the DMK alliance would secure a substantial victory in the 2026 assembly elections, suggesting that the TVK would not be able to gather sufficient strength to challenge this outcome.
While acknowledging that Mr. Vijay’s political venture had generated a certain “impact,” Mr. Vaiko maintained that the DMK alliance remained “intact.” He also noted that the true extent of this impact would only become clear following the poll results. Addressing Mr. Vijay’s election campaigning, Mr. Vaiko differentiated between a film star’s popular following and the realities of the electoral field. He further supported the DMK government, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, by highlighting its fulfillment of most poll promises and the implementation of numerous unannounced schemes.
