Two members of the National Council for Transgender Persons (NCTP), Rituparna Neog and Subramaniam, resigned from their positions on March 25, 2026. Their resignations followed the recent passage of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill 2026 by the Rajya Sabha. The Bill had previously been passed by the Lok Sabha on March 24, 2026.

The resigning members cited concerns regarding the Bill, stating it did not adequately incorporate community perspectives. Neog, a North East region representative, indicated her inability to be part of a body that she felt "refused to listen to the community." Subramaniam articulated that the amendments within the Bill were viewed by some as impacting fundamental rights to self-identification and dignity, representing a reversal of legal principles that have guided transgender rights in India. Subramaniam also noted receiving support and solidarity from the community for their decision to resign.
